Khandi Point
This year's independence day (15th Aug) was on a a Thursday followed by Raksha Bandhan on Monday (19th Aug).
With a planned or a sick leave on Friday, this becomes a super long weekend with 5 days at a stretch.
This is usually a very busy time of the year for me at work and also my elder daughter who has her exam on 16th.
An impromptu plan got its place and we headed out to Khandi Point. Map showed 70kms distance with a travel time of 2h 15 min.
We packed the required stuff, had a yummy brunch of Rajma rice and started off.
It was yet another road trip in our XUV700.
The roads were good, not much of traffic except for a bottle neck near the toll plaza.
There's a single road for around 26km which leads to Khandi Point. The views on the way were good with not much downpour, fog visible above the mountains. We also came across a river on the way with a motor boat ⛵.
We probably missed a turn on the way and ended up at a totally different place(5kms away from our actual destination). That was the end of the road. There was no going further. We got down. There was a huge grassland to be seen, so we started walking on it to see what was around. What we saw was amazing.
It was a huge open land with grass all around. A plateau which was a great view point to have an amazing view of the surroundings. A few cattle could be seen grazing at another piece of land.
We clicked some pictures, enjoyed and absorbed the beautiful view and then started back.
We thought of giving a try to find Khandi point and this time I was attentive.
We found the turn that was missed before. In a few minutes, we reached Khandi point.
This was another amazing view. The car parking is at the view itself. It started raining heavily and we got back in the car waiting for the downpour to slow. Once the rain slowed, we got down to see the beautiful view, clicked pictures too.
There were a few stalls for eatables which weren't selling impressive food items. The bhajiya wasn't good and the packaged chips were local with a typical taste. We got roasted corn 🌽 (bhutta) and enjoyed it in light rain. We then started back.
Now the kids has imagined getting wet under a waterfall which wasn't the case, making them a bit disappointed.
On our way back, there was a stream of water gushing through the rocks. We took a halt there to enjoy some water. We chose to sit on higher rocks to dip only our feet while the kids wanted to sit it water.
We started our journey back home. In Pune, we took a bit of a de-tour to go to Delhi Swad in Nigdi for some pet-pooja.
And then back home by 10pm as it was a regular day on Friday.
