4 days road trip to Uttarakhand
Summers are here and so are summer vacations. Schools are closed and are bi-annual leaves are due. We planned a trip to Uttarakhand, Dehradun and Mussoorie to be specific.
We booked our hotels , 1 night for Dehradun and 2 nights for Mussoorie.
DAY 1
We started early morning around 6 am from Panipat, Haryana. Took around 6 hours to reach Dehradun which included 1-2 short breaks for tea and breakfast.
We had reserved Hotel Ashrey for our stay in Dehradun and decided to check-in and freshen up before going out for sight seeing. We got a family room on the ground floor and the room was properly managed with good room service.
We then stepped out for sight seeing. The weather changed pleasantly and there were unexpected showers. We reached our first spot "Sahastradhara". The name means 100 streams. The weather was cool and the water was cold. We still managed to get under the streams of water and enjoyed ourselves. We changed in the changing rooms available there and then the rain showers got heavy. We took shelter in the restaurant there and enjoyed veg chowmein, pakoras and coffee there. Once the rains slowed down, we started from there to our next destination "Forest Research Institute". There's an entry charge and parking charge for the vehicle. There are 5 museums inside for which separate ticket needs to be purchased. The museum's are well maintained , the institute has a nicely done architecture and a very very beautiful garden to flaunt. The greenery here is breathtaking.
It was evening by now and we proceeded to the most famous market of Dehradun - " Paltan Bazaar" which is right next to the clock tower of Dehradun. We went around the local market and had burgers and chaat items at a shop there. Post this, we went back to our hotel, had tea and snuggled into bed.

DAY 2
We got ready , checked out of hotel Ashrey in Dehradun and proceeded towards "Buddha temple". This is a beautiful, very very clean and well maintained place. It opens from 10am till 5pm. From here we proceeded towards "Malsi deer park" that's on the way to Mussoorie. Though it's called the deer park, but it's also called the Dehradun zoo. It houses a variety of colourful birds and various animals. Kids had a fun time with the birds and the animals.
Next stop was Hotel valley view in Mussoorie. It is in kempty which is quite near to the famous kempty falls of Mussoorie. We checked in to our room. The wind was chilly and was blowing with a good force. We had our lunch and then went to the "kempty falls". Owing to the drop in temperature, the water was very cold and the falls were nearly empty. We somehow managed to plunge in the water for a few minutes, clicked pictures, changed and then had hot coffee. The shops on the steps of kempty start closing down around 6pm. While climbing up the stairs to go back to the hotel, we got a few pictures clicked in the traditional Garwali dress.
DAY 3
The sun was shining bright unlike the previous day. We headed to "company garden" which was an hour's drive from the hotel. The garden was nicely maintained.. It had greenery, beautiful flowers, a waterfall, wax museum and a restaurant too.
Next, we headed to "Mussoorie Lake". There were stairs to go down to the lake. Entry tickets for the lake are available at the entrance, and the boating tickets are available at the lake. Pedal boats are available for a 20-min self boating. There are shops around the lake. We had lunch at one of those shops and then proceeded towards "camels back road".
There were telescopes available there and we saw "camel's back", "clock tower", "Lal tibba", "language school" and a "temple".
The person handling the telescopes told us that Lal tibba is the highest point in Mussoorie. This information made us to head towards Lal tibba. The roads leading to Lal tibba were too steep and had traffic jam which further worsened the condition of traffic there. After quite a struggle, we reached Lal tibba. The nature looks amazing from this point. There are 2 cafes there serving pancakes, ice creams and other such items. We clicked pictures with the beautiful nature in the back drop and then headed to Mall road. Roamed around on Mall road, some Street shopping and ofcourse food.
I saw a shop selling chhole kulche and they looked nice, asked the vendor to make one plate first and the taste was brilliant. We had kulche chhole for our dinner and then went back to our hotel.
DAY 4
The initial plan was to have a nice breakfast in Mussoorie and then start for Delhi. Then there was a twist and we instead headed to Haridwar (har ki Pauri) , took a plunge in the holy waters and then drove back home.
P.S. : We had planned this holiday well in advance and chose Trip point to book hotels for us. They could not do so in 2 months and haven't even refunded the advance payment amount. Bad experience with a start-up.
