Kaas Plateau - Valley of flowers

Image
Monsoon was almost retreating in Pune, though the showers had been inconsistent this year - started earlier and continued till later than usual. Kaas plateau in Satara district of Maharashtra is known for its variety of flowers that bloom towards the end of monsoon. We planned to start at 6am but started only by 6:50am. It was a 3-hour drive according to the maps. The morning weather was cool and clear with beautiful views of the nature all along the way that looked like sceneries. 30kms before the destination, we stopped at "Bananaa Leaf" for a delicious South Indian breakfast. Every dish was worth relishing. After spending almost 40mins there, we started towards kaas plateau. We reached the kaas parking by 10:45am. There was a queue to get to the bus that would take us to the actual spot. It took us nearly 45 mins to board the bus and then less than 5 mins to reach gate 1.  There are a few gates from where you can enter and ti...

Image
Sunday morning during the Pune monsoon season. Planned for a day outing to a few places around. We started from home at around 9:30am headed towards World peace dome in the MIT campus located in Loni Kalbhor area. The traffic was pretty smooth , reaching the destination by 11am. They have an entry fee of ₹100 per adult and ₹50 per child. The infrastructure is beautifully maintained. It comprises of the main dome which has statues of many renowned personalities from around the world spanning varied eras, a library comprising of books (not many though) and highlights about a lot of famous personalities, a meditation hall (which was not easy to figure out) and a Geeta bhavan which has a life size statue of the chariot along with Krishna and Arjuna. It also has description of some important concepts from each religion. Yes, though it is called Geeta bhavan, it does have details on all religions. The lawns were nicely maintained to sit,  click pictures, etc. At 1pm we exited...

Teen dhaam yatra

Image
Annual summer break(not my break though, but I prefer taking this annual break) is here and so is the customary trip to Mohali.  The plan was to go for teen dhaam yatra. There are actually char dhaam for Hindus to be covered in the very same order - Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath & Badrinath. The teen dhaam this time around excludes Kedarnath. Day 1 We started from our home in Mohali, Punjab at 4:45am for our first dhaam - Yamunotri. Drove till around 8:20am before stopping over at NH7 punjabi rasoi for breakfast. The paranthe and the tea was good and so was the staff - very humble and sweet. After around a 30 min halt, we proceeded again. The roads weren't very good. Given the fact that all the dhaam are located in Uttarakhand , the route was hilly too. We reached out hotel "Uday Villa" by 3:30pm. The hotel was located right besides the main parking. We had lunch at the hotel and the visited the sheetkaleen temple of Yamuna maiya. This is the place where Yamuna maiya...
